Spring Cleaning Your Central Heating System

A central heating system is a great addition to any home, but a less than desired addition is the rust that starts to appear on your radiators. Rust can be very common, but it is important that you do something about it. Unfortunately there are some homeowners that don’t care about their radiators, but leaving it won’t make it get any better. Visitors that come to your home might even comment on how ghastly the rust on the radiators looks. So, if this sounds like something your house suffers with, its time to do something about it.

We like to call this central heating spring cleaning. It’s a catchy name and it should help persuade you that regular central heating maintenance is essential. It might be that you need to clean the heavy pile of dust off the radiators, but today we’re going to focus on getting rid of that persistent rust.

For arguments sake, assume you are a single mother with central heating Newcastle. Tomorrow is the day when people are coming over to visit you and you just know you have to do something about the radiators before they arrive. Residents of Newcastle, and other places in the UK, are typically inquisitive and like to snoop around people’s homes when they visit, so the last thing you want them to see is a rusty radiator. It might not even be visitors that are coming over – it could be that you’re trying to sell your home, in which case you need to make sure that rusty radiators are absolutely nowhere to be seen! Therefore, putting this into perspective, it doesn’t even matter who you are or where you live, just as long as you get rid of the rust, and here is some great advice for doing so.

Tip1: Rust is actually a frequent feature on radiators around the UK. First and foremost, you need to strip the radiator surface back to the bare metal. Apply a paint and varnish stripper and then clean the radiator properly.
Tip 2: Once you have done the stripping, the next step is to prime the metal and this will seal the top surface.
Tip 3: Once the radiator is dry you might want to apply radiator enamel.
Tip 4: Remember to visit local DIY stores to pick up all the bits you need for doing this.
Tip 5: Don’t use ordinary paint on radiators as this can cause problems.

Central heating systems up and down the country are being spring cleaned and old rusty radiators are looking as good as new.
